ASSISTANT caretaker manager Ian Clarkson is backing Kidderminster Harriers fans' proposal to form a Supporters' Trust to raise for the Nationwide League Division Three club.

A public meeting at Aggborough to thrash out details attracted more than 300 people including MPs Dr Richard Taylor and Tom Watson., plus millionaire Lionel Newton, who quit as Harriers chairman recently because of lack of support through the turnstiles and from local businesses.

The Trust is being set up by the Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporters' Association.

It will be officially launched at the end of the season after legal work has been completed.

Each member will pay a nominal sum to join then fork out any amount they choose on a monthly basis with the idea to pool the money.

Clarkson, who is helping caretaker boss Ian Britton following the departures of Jan Molby and Gary Barnett, attended the public meeting and described the turn-out as 'brilliant'.

He said: "I hope it's a success because the club needs it. I was at Northampton when they did it and I realise what a success it was there.

"Hopefully, it was can be the same sort of success here. The players are fully supportive of all the efforts."

Alan Shepherd, joint co-ordinator of Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporters Association, said the Trust would be empowered to buy shares into the club.

Life-long Harriers supporter Mr Watson, who is backing the scheme, said: "We as supporters are not the legal owners of the football club but we are the moral owners. We want to build a strong relationship between fans and the board."
