DARLINGTON have already experienced a major high and a low after two games of the new season.

Mick Tait's team crashed to a 4-1 defeat at one of the promotion favourites Hull on Saturday with keeper Andy Collett preventing a bigger loss.

But then Darlington recorded a Carling Cup first-round shock on Tuesday with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out win at Division One club Bradford.

The two had drawn 0-0 after extra-time but the underdogs kept their heads with the spot-kicks.

Darlington added two late signings before the season with Fabien Bossy, 25, from Scottish League Division One Clyde the first to put pen to paper.

French midfielder Bossy has also played for Montpellier, Academica in Portugal and Clydebank.

Then Tait added 21-year-old defender Jon Hutchinson who was released by Birmingham, despite making seven appearances for the first team.

He earlier swooped for Unibond League hotshot Glen Robson from Blyth and young Leicester goalkeeper Michael Price.

Matt Clarke, who scored both goals in Darlington's 2-1 home win over Harriers last season, is currently operating in defence.
