FAST bowler Nantie Hayward has put his future as a South African Test player in jeopardy by signing a 'no-escape' contract for Worcestershire.

The 25-year-old, who is contracted to the United Cricket Board until April, agreed a deal which does not allow for the possibility of being released if he is selected for South Africa's five-Test tour of England this year.

Hayward's move to New Road, however, has yet to be officially announced by the County.

"If he has signed he is in breach of his contract," said Gerald Majola, chief executive of the UCB who is set to have talks with the player. He added: "There is nothing to stop players negotiating with other parties, but it states clearly in their contracts that they can't sign anything before talking to us."

Hayward has confirmed through United Cricket Board communications manager Gerald de Kock that he has signed for Worcestershire and there was no escape clause.

By contrast, South African Test all-rounder Andrew Hall has signed for the County with a specific clause allowing him to be released should he be required by his country.
