MOBILE phone owners in Warwickshire are being urged to register their handsets for free with a new website and increase their chances of getting lost or stolen phones back.
Warwickshire Police is calling on all mobile users to log on to www.immobilise.co.uk, a new database supported by the mobile phone industry, other police forces and the Home Office.
Using the new system, people who have their phones stolen can call police and their network provider on the database's information line and following the instructions. Reporting the handset stolen will enable the SIM card and handset to be blocked, rendering it useless. They can also register the phone as stolen on the website.
DC Lisa Loftus, force telecommunications officer, said: "The register already holds the details of over 10 million phones, but we want everybody who owns a mobile phone to add their details. The more people and organisations get involved, the more effective the register will be."
