Bretforton 5, Cirencester 1

DESPITE the dullness of the day it didn't take Bretforton long to brighten things up when Sophie Corbett opened the scoring with an excellent strike from the edge of the D.

The home side then pushed forward with Corbett, Lisa Workman, Dannie Cox and Gilly Wright in midfield, getting good support from Liz Murray-White and Bobbie Handley.

Sarah Hall had an excellent game up front and was thwarted several times by the Cirencester goalkeeper.

However, a free hit from the edge of the D by Corbett saw Andrea Cole slip the ball to Workman wide on the right to double the advantage.

Cirencester pulled a goal back just before half-time but another super strike from Corbett restored the home side's two-goal cushion after the restart.

A great move from inside their opponents' half then saw Corbett passing the ball side to Cole on the wide left.

She found player of the match Hall who side-stepped the keeper for 3-1.

Corbett's free hit then picked out Wright who pushed the ball into the goal off the right-hand post.

Bretforton Ladies II 4, St Gregory's 0

GREAT team play and some excellent individual performances combined to ensure Bretforton returned to league action in winning style.

It took them only two minutes to take the lead when Sarah Bragg smashed the ball into the net and it wasn't long before the scorer was again being congratulated after a cheeky finish through the goalkeeper's legs.

Shirley Aubrey and Ceri Barber were constantly feeding balls through to the forwards and Bragg completed her hat-trick midway through the first half after another good run.

Gregs almost reduced the deficit before the break but Fiona Baldelli did well to prevent a short corner strike hitting the back boards.

Her opposite number wasn't quite so efficient when player of the match Fiona Jordan and Kate Williams combined to release Bragg whose subsequent cross was slotted home by Julie Hall.

It was a completely different tale in the second half as the Saints stepped up the pace and prevented further goals. Baldelli was kept on her toes as a series of short corners threatened a clean sheet but she received solid support from Lesley McKinnon and Jude Edghill.

The match ball was sponsored by Kiddiwinks. It's Shipton Oliffe away on Saturday.
