THE world of music is standing up to be counted when it comes to the tsunami appeal and Sunday, January 23, looks to be a top day for money-spinning.

In Droitwich, at the Doverdale Arms, Stalls Farm Road, owners Nick Oakes and Sarah Harwood have donated money towards a sound system for the afternoon.

Spa man, Martin Hughes, has set up the event with his musical mates, including Andy Jones, Dick Gould, Steve Wilson, Martin Harris and Stu Perry, who will be getting the party started with a set of rock classics, old and new.

Any other musicians, vocalists or bands who want to get up and play are more than welcome, says Martin. For further details call him on 07974 381165.

The show will begin at 1pm.

Meanwhile in Worcester, a group of Worcester musicians has teamed up in a bid to raise money for the tsunami disaster appeal.

Former members of Worcester based tribute band, The Beatless, and their manager Tony Gibbon, have organised a fund-raising concert featuring many of the city's top bands.

Tony said: "We couldn't just sit around doing nothing, so we decided to do what we are good at, by organising a big gig to raise money."

He added: "Everyone has provided their services and time for free, the response has been brilliant!"

The concert takes place at Drummonds Bar, New Street, Worcester on Sunday, January 23, and will feature a host of local bands.

These include Medford, The Lightness, The Badgers, Come Together, Woody & The Stuntcocks, The Reflections, Fingers and The Disciples.

Tickets are priced at £5 and are available from Drummonds, The Swan With Two Nicks in New Street, and Music City in The Tything. Doors open at 6pm and the event runs until midnight.
