A PATCH of overgrown land in Headless Cross which has been the subject of a number of controversial planning applications for housing - as well as two planning appeals - might finally be developed.

The land, behind homes on Feckenham Road and Marlpit Lane, was last year subject to a planning application for four detached houses by Steve Dodd Property Developments.

But in a rare move it was turned down by councillors on the planning committee, despite planning officers' advice - a decision subsequently backed by a planning inspector when Steve Dodd appealed.

Planning permission for three houses was originally granted 17 years ago and renewed a number of times over the years.

Neighbours have objected in the past though, saying a fourth home would overlook some of their properties.

Despite further concerns about gaining access to the houses from Feckenham Road, the application could now get the green light following a planning committee last night, in which officers recommended it should go ahead.

Following the last refusal, Steve Dodd Property Developments changed the plans to include a bungalow, which officers said is unlikely to be visually intrusive - the primary reason the application was originally refused.

Final permission for approval would have to be delegated from councillors to officers pending details of how an oak tree near the site entrance would be protected and a wildlife survey.
