MOVES to open a second University College Worcester campus in the centre of the city have received a boost after a new storage area was found for a number of museum artefacts.

The city council last night agreed to sign a 20-year agreement with the county council to place items at a special unit in Hartlebury, near Kidderminster.

Museum storage space vacated in Perdiswell will be filled by the parks depot, which is currently located in The Butts.

Expansion

The Butts site has been earmarked for a huge new library to be used by students and city residents as part of the UCW expansion.

Councillors said the city authority would pick up 45 per cent of the new rents and rates amounting to about £37,000 per year.

The council plans to recoup the annual bill by increasing bookings at the city museum and art gallery and Commandery civil war museum.

Areas currently used for storage will be rented for events.
