The owner of a Leigh Sinton nursing home that closed down two weeks ago is lodging a formal complaint against the decision.

Moat House Nursing Home closed after Worcestershire social services said it failed to meet legislative standards.

Its 25 residents were found alternative accommodation in homes across the two counties and around 40 staff lost their jobs.

After an inspection in June, a report from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) reported a shortfall in medication monitoring, poor care planning, a malodour in communal areas and unsafe radiators.

The home's owner, Val Holland, is in the process of lodging a formal complaint about the decision.

"Obviously, there are minor things to put right in any home but we've never had any complaints from any of the relatives of residents," she said.

"The feedback we've had from visitors and doctors has always been very positive."

She said relatives were very unhappy with the closure and that former residents had been placed in homes spread throughout the area.

"Some people have been moved as far afield as Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Redditch, many relatives are furious."

She said relatives should have been consulted before a decision.

A CSCI spokesman said: "Staff from the Commission and its partner agencies had been in dialogue with the owners in attempts to try to improve standards of care, but unfortunately this has proved impossible.

"The Commission takes complaints very seriously and will ensure they are fully investigated where this is justified, but the complaints procedure cannot be allowed to interfere with our statutory duty to take appropriate action where a service has not been operating at the standards which are to be expected."
