A VIENNESE concert featuring music by Strauss, Mozart and Lehar will mark the start of the new year in Wyre Forest.

Kidderminster and District Lions Club's fourth New Year's Day Concert will take place at Kidderminster Town Hall under the baton of Jonathon Hill.

Soprano Judith Horton will be singing Vilia from Lehar's The Merry Widow and The Laughing Song from Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus at the spectacular, while Mike Revell will be playing Mozart's Horn Concerto No.3.

Mr Revell studied music at the Northern College of Music with Ifor James and Sidney Coulston and has played with numerous well-known British orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and English Symphony Orchestra.

Mr Revell will be making his solo debut in the New Year's Day Concert.

A music teacher by profession, Mrs Horton trained at the Birmingham Conservatoire and regularly performs as a guest soloist at the concert.

The Midland Concert Orchestra will also provide music.

Organiser, Colin Hill, said the event had become firmly fixed in the Christmas calendar.

"This is the fourth time we've done it and it is a nice event to start the year with," he said, "We're really pleased with the way it is going."

He added the venue could hold just over 400 people and he was hoping to sell 400 tickets. The proceeds will go to the Lions charity fund.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, can be purchased from the town hall and Swan Centre Management Suite in Kidderminster, Stourport Photo Centre and Bewdley Tourist Information Centre.
