FOR pupils of Kidderminster's Sladen C of E Middle School, learning about being good citizens is in the bag after they raised £1,041 for local good cause, Kemp Hospice.
Citizenship is part of the pupils' curriculum in their personal, social and health education classes and Dot Hellawell, subject co-ordinator, thought raising money for the hospice would be a good lesson.
Mrs Hellawell said: "By raising money for Kemp, we are raising the awareness of the children of what is happening in their own area and about people in need - that is what citizenship is about. They did absolutely marvellously."
Around 50 pupils spent four hours of their own time on a Saturday recently bag-packing at Sainsbury's in Kidderminster to raise the cash, which John Fletcher, hospice appeals manager, said was "an astonishing figure".
