VALE folk dreaming of a white Christmas have a fifty-fifty chance of it coming true, according to the Met Office.

Although Worcestershire weatherman Paul Damari puts the odds higher on the Vale looking like a picture postcard on the big day, children could be fine-tuning their toboggans and heading for the hills.

On Tuesday, the MET office predicted that there was a 50 per cent chance of snow showers across the south Worcestershire region on Christmas day and Boxing day.

Paul Damari believes that chance is only slim on Saturday, December 25.

He said: "I would say its about a 15 to 20 per cent chance of a white Christmas - that's snow on Christmas day - which is very low. Christmas day on Saturday looks set for a frosty start and some dry, bright weather and some cheery December sunshine with the risk of a few wintry showers around. Over Christmas weekend there is a risk of one or two wintry showers like hail, sleet, or snow. If there are snow showers around its more likely over hilly areas like the Malvern and Bredon hills. People have to be careful of ice or mist."

Earlier this week Coral, the bookies, said the odds that it would snow on Christmas day were seven to four nationally. Manager of the Evesham branch, Steve Pullen said: "We take a few novelty bets each year."
