THE decorations that you hang on your Christmas tree reveal a lot about your personality.

Supermarket giant Sainbury's questioned 1,500 people about their decorating habits and found seven popular styles of tree.

The Kat Slater, named after the bold and brassy EastEnders character, is decked with traditional red and gold baubles and lots of tinsel.

The Sienna Miller, named after the stylish actress, is adorned with chrome, purple and this year's "in" colour, green.

The Renee Zellweger has pink and white decorations and is said to be feminine, pretty and smart.

In contrast, there is the Anne Robinson, named after the fierce presenter. This is a stark tree with black decorations.

The Bruce Forsyth is covered in velvet bows and beads, while the Kate Winslet has hand-made decorations by children.

Finally, the David Brent, inspired by The Office character, is artificial and old with fairy lights that are on the blink.

Reporter Kate Yates asked Worcester city retailers about this year's festive seasonal styles.

Marks & Spencer manager Martin Woodhouse said customers were ditching the more garish Kat Slater tree in favour of the Renee Zellweger.

"We have a lot of Kat Slater stock left, but that will probably go into the sale," he said. "I think people have moved on and are more stylish and chic. People are trying to make their houses more traditional and not garish."

Mr Woodhouse said influential home improvement programmes had made people more conscious of style within the home.

Great Expectations manager Mandy Hill said textured decorations were a hit this year at the shop in The Shambles.

"If it's got a bit of fluff or feathers then its gone," she said. "It's definitely a feminine style this year.

"I just think styles have been very loud and brash for a very long time and people are going for something more delicate."

She added that the Sienna Miller tree reflected her customers' purchases - with purple, gold and cream being the desired shades.

According to Sarah Marsh, manager of The Ultimate Party Shop in Angel Place, the bright and brash Kat Slater tree is the number one choice for her customers.

"Anything goes with our decorations.

"Up for a laugh - reflects our customers and our products," she said.

Miss Marsh said women were getting into the festive spirit this year and buying daring fancy dress costumes.

"A lot of women want to be sexy Miss Santa this year in saucy PVC," she added.

Kristoff Clark, speaking on behalf of High Street store Woolworths, said: "Christmas decorations are very personal to everyone.

"This Christmas there is a definite leaning towards confident, opulent colours like gold and red and also bold, bright colours, often with stripy patterns."

He added that the trends are heavily influenced by magazines and home improvement programmes.

Julian Day, of The Christmas Shop in Angel Place, said that traditional red and gold decorations had been popular, as well as pink, purple and white.

And at Beatties, customers have been splashing out on traditional luxury decorations at the store in Chapel Walk.
