A CASH boost will be used for the good of residents after Wychavon District Council was granted £36,062 for environmentally friendly waste disposal.

The district council is set to receive its share of the Waste Performance and Efficiency Grants announced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. (DEFRA)

Worcestershire County Council, the six district councils in Worcestershire and Herefordshire County Council are set to receive a share of the DEFRA grants which total more than half a million pounds.

The cash is allocated to help local authorities to divert waste away from landfill sites and encourage more recycling within the area.

Worcestershire and Herefordshire have a joint plan for dealing with waste in the two counties, known as the Joint Municipal Waste Strategy which aims to reduce, reuse, retain, recycle and recover waste.
