ADULTS in Wyre Forest are buying alcohol and passing it on to underage drinkers, according to a Bewdley policeman helping enforce a new initiative clamping down on drink-related violence.

Bewdley beat manager, PC Nigel Barter, has worked with Stourport beat manager, PC Jon Harris, and Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership and Primary Care Trust to produce posters reminding people not to supply alcohol to underage teenagers.

The poster initiative is part of Operation Christmas Presence - a force-wide campaign clamping down on drink-driving, drink-spiking and drink-related violence to make the festive season safe for everyone.

PC Barter said patrols of the district regularly found youngsters who had been drinking.

"The Alcohol Reduction Zone in Bewdley has proved an effective tool in our work in preventing underage drinking taking place within the town centre and this poster campaign is reinforcing that message," he said.

"However, it is clear people are still drinking underage elsewhere and that adults are actively purchasing alcohol and passing it on to youngsters.

"This poster, which will be in pubs and off licences, will serve to remind offenders of the severe penalty for committing this offence."

PC Harris said: "Officers will be actively seeking evidence where people over 18 have supplied juveniles with alcohol with a view to prosecution."
