YOUNGSTERS in an area of Stourport have been spreading their wings thanks to the help of an organisation which aims to offer alternatives to hanging around the streets.
Community Action Newtown, part of the Urban Safety Initiative, is providing £1,500 for use on out-of-area trips by the Youth Centre in Windermere Way, Stourport.
Jill Fairbrother-Millis, CAN secretary, said the money would be spent on trips to take part in activities not available in Stourport.
She said: "The idea is to expand their horizons. The young people themselves decide what they want to do and plan and organise it all.
"They have set up their own committee to take full responsibility and to be accountable."
Ann Baldaro, senior youth worker with Wyre Forest District Council, added the programme was about "developing citizenship".
