CHILDREN at an Alcester school learned all about the Christingle as part of their preparations for Christmas.

It originated in the Moravian church as a symbol of the Christian faith and the word Christingle means Christ Light.

The orange represents the world, the red ribbon around it is the blood of Christ and the fruits, nuts and sweets symbolise God's creation. The candle in the centre represents Jesus, the light of the world.

The Christingle has been adopted by the Children's Society and every year services are held in schools and churches to raise money for the charity, which looks after children with problems.

A service was held at Holy Trinity Church, Arrow, on Sunday and earlier in the week the Rev David Capron visited St Nicholas' School to explain the Christingle and its meaning.
