STAFF at an Alcester company had an unpleasant shock when they were told their firm was to close just weeks before Christmas.
Severn Lamb, in Tything Road, employed about 40 people in its workshop where they made rail and road trains. Customers included Disneyland Paris and the trains have been used to transport judges in Alcester's annual in bloom competition.
The family firm was founded in Stratford in 1947 and its sudden closure has surprised many people in the town.
Alcester district and county councillor Susan Juned said: "It is very disappointing. I had had no prior warning.
"Warwickshire has had a low unemployment rate and good employment in the county and particularly in Alcester. I just hope the current, slight financial dip isn't having a knock-on effect."
No one at the company was available for comment as the Chronicle went to press. An answerphone message informs callers that the "offices are currently closed".
