WORK on a £1 million extension at Studley Infants School will start again some time in the new year after Warwickshire County Council ditched its original contractor because of long delays in completing the project.

In November, Meades of Evesham were given an ultimatum by the county council following setbacks in completing the new school wing.

It had originally been due for completion by the start of the new school year in September.

But Meades have now left the school grounds in Pool Road and the site has been tidied up ready for when work finally begins again next year.

The company had been taken over by another firm and the contract terminated.

But there will still be some delay while a new contract is drawn up and goes out to tender for a new construction firm to come in and complete the extension.

The money involved will again have to be approved by the Warwickshire County Council cabinet.

When complete, the unique and unusual extension will replace four temporary classrooms and create a modern courtyard and play area in the middle of the school.

Studley Parish Councillor and school governor Ann Wade spoke last month of her admiration for the teachers at the school who were doing a "fantastic job coping with the building work".
