A LAKESIDE business has been fined £2,000 with costs after an employee partially amputated two fingers at work.
Crystalware Limited, of Brook Street, last week pleaded guilty at Redditch Magistrates Court to breaching The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
The company was also ordered to pay £1,476 costs.
The case was brought after employee Gurbax Singh partially amputated the middle and ring fingers on his right hand after they made contact with the unguarded drive chain and sprocket on an electrically powered conveyor.
Paul Humphries, Inspector of Health and Safety, told the court the chain and sprocket which caused the injury should have been covered by guarding.
Rachel Lyne, solicitor for the firm, said in mitigation the company was sorry the accident had occurred, were sure the guard was off the machine for only a short time and had a previously good safety record.
