MANUFACTURING and its place in the Worcestershire economy was the subject of a recent debate.
Organised by the Chamber of Commerce Herefordshire and Worcestershire, the talks were a chance for manufacturers in the area to quiz their local MP Jacqui Smith, Minister for Industry, as well as a panel of manufacturing experts from around the area.
The debate - which took place at the Abbey Hotel Golf and Country Club, Redditch - hung on the Government's review of its Manufacturing Strategy, published two years ago.
Homework
"The audience certainly kept the panel on its toes," said Christopher Harvey, head of policy and representation at the Chamber of Commerce.
"They were well prepared with some interesting and incisive questions.
"Saying that, however, the panel was also very well prepared and had obviously done their homework.
"Their responses to the questions were very interesting and certainly gave everyone in the audience a lot to think about.
"It was an open and frank debate about manufacturing which, I think, everyone gained something from."
