BEWDLEY Town are hoping the future is bright after stepping up their bid to fund floodlights at Ribbesford Meadow.

Craig Payton's in-form team are well poised for promotion from West Midlands League division two this season.

Bewdley won the title two years ago only to be frustrated by their ground not being up to scratch for higher league football.

And Payton is anxious to avoid a repeat if his players do the business on the pitch and seal another promotion. Ann Mulders, wife of player Jan, has joined the club's committee and is actively seeking funding through the lottery.

But even if Town raise the estimated £50,000 needed for floodlights, the work could not be completed in time for next season. That would mean ground-sharing with another Worcestershire club next season and they are already putting the feelers out to see if any of their neighbours would be willing to help.

If the first team did temporarily move away from the Meadow, the club would set up a reserve team to maintain revenue and football at the ground.

Meanwhile, back on the pitch, a productive festive period could see Bewdley overhaul Great Wyrley to go top. They have two successive home games and are hoping for 100-plus crowds when they play host to Bridgnorth at 1.45pm on Monday December 27 and when they entertain Hinton at 1.45pm on Monday January 3.

l Chaddesley Corbett are still languishing in the lower reaches of West Midlands Two after a disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to mid-table Kington.

Their next league match is away at Dudley United on Saturday January 8.

Kidderminster Harriers ladies kept their recent success story rolling with a thumping 4-0 victory over AFC Telford.

Michael Kirby-Davies's ladies have now well and truly turned the table and are lying fourth in the league.

Emma Bowdler opened the scoring on 22 minutes. Sarah Lojko made it 2-0 a minute after the break.and netted her second and Harriers third on 62 minutes.

Lisa Stokes completed the scoring on 84 minutes, finishing from close range after good work by Lojko.

Harriers ladies reserves had to settle for a share of the spoils with Evesham despite a Kirsty Sheppard hat-trick. Sheppard put Harrriers 2-0 up but they could not protect their lead and the match finished 3-3.

Burlish Olympic Ladies saw their fading title hopes evaporate with a poor 4-0 defeat to Malvern.
