COOKLEY Cricket Club are hoping to shake off their reputation as one of the oldest playing squads in the area by targeting youngsters.

Former Worcestershire all-rounder Gavin Haynes has been drafted in to provide specialist coaching for cricketers aged from 14 to 20 years.

The indoor sessions, which are being funded through a grant from the Sebright Trust, will take place at Kinver Leisure Centre in March and April next year.

The Worcestershire County League club has lined up some of its own players and will talk to local schools to identify suitable candidates for the course.

Cookley chairman Phil Dixon thanked the trust, which provides help for young people in Wolverley and Cookley.

"I think we are one of the oldest first eleven squads around, " he said.

"We do have a few youngsters coming through but we need more and are looking for youngsters with ability who do not currently enjoy a regular game of cricket."
