A HOPED for settlement in the long-running dispute between Tenbury Tennis Club and the town council is on the cards following negotiations between solicitors.

At the club's recent AGM, members were brought up to date on the dispute over rental of the Burgage courts and told it was expected to be resolved soon.

It was also reported that the club had not been able to use the Burgage courts during the year but Mrs Eilie Robinson was thanked for the use of her private court in the winter.

During the summer members had used the facilities at the Brimfield and Little Hereford Sports Club, which enabled the mixed and men's team to compete in Hereford and Worcester LTA's competitions.

Neither team had much success because it had been necessary to play most home matches away because of restrictions imposed on the club.

The results of club tournaments were: Singles winners in the top group. Boys: 1st Wayne Farrar; 2nd Stephen Thomas; 3rd Charlie Parkes. Girls: 1st Melanie Crabtree; 2nd Natalie Bridge; 3rd Alice Crabtree. Second Group: Boys: Thomas Pitt, Girls: Hannah Bailey.

Most improved players over the season: Alice Crabtree - top group; Robert Salmon - second group. William Edwards and Kate Yarnold - first group.

The following were elected: President and junior organiser - Eilie Robinson; chairman and men's captain: John Thomas; secretary: Peter Bevis; treasurer: Richard Tatlow; mixed captain: Sue Salmon; men's vice-captain: Steve Hotchkiss; committee members: Tony Reeve, Alan West, Ursula Woodhouse.
