MOST workers will not be having a Christmas party, extra leave or a bonus this year, highlighting the Scrooge mentality of employers, a leading union complained today.
A survey of 500 workers by Amicus showed that only one in three would have a festive celebration paid for by their employers.
One in 10 have never had a Christmas party, while two thirds will not be receiving a bonus to mark the end of the year.
Most of those polled said they have been told they have to work between Christmas and the New Year, even though it is the most unproductive time of the year.
Amicus general secretary Derek Simpson said: "Employers are attacking workers' pensions, exporting their jobs abroad, handing out below inflation pay rises and now they are closing down Christmas.
"This is the time of year when employers should be thanking their staff for their hard work and the contribution they've made to the business over the last 12 months, not cancelling Christmas."
Amicus warned firms they could spark "bad behaviour" by staff if they did not show goodwill.
