IS it just me who's angry, or are other people of Worcester also feeling they have been conned?

What am I talking about? The Worcester High Street "renovations." All through the planning process we were told that there would be several existing mature trees remaining and more added.

Many letters to your correspondence columns made the point about the peace and calm brought to the High Street and its unique use of trees, which made it unlike other city centres.

And what have we got? All the existing trees cut down - those of a suspicious mind would think that was the plan all along - and a bland and boring surfacing of shiny blocks.

New toytown trees have been planted that will never mature into the lovely green canopy we had previously and which gave shade in the summer as well as character. We now have a High Street out of any town, anywhere.

Presumably this process will also take place along the remaining section to be tackled and the city highway planners will have achieved their original aim of removing every single tree that so very many of us wanted retained.

But what do we know - we are just the people who pay the bills.

Worcester.
