LIKE George Cowley, I too have a working class background.
I also spent 16 years in the Labour heartlands of Birmingham, and had first-hand experience of the effects of long-term unemployment in my immediate family during the 1980s. But that doesn't mean I put my head in the sand and blow the same political trumpet no matter what.
When it comes to the gross discrimination that exists against our schools, hospitals and police with regards to funding, I am not afraid to stand up and be counted.
HELEN DONOVAN, Evesham.
