WORCESTER Wolves progessed safely to the National Trophy semi-finals with a 94-91 victory at Solent Stars.

Wolves' fourth West Pool success maintained their 100 per cent record in the event.

But Wolves made the long trip south yesterday knowing their last four place as group winners was already secure following Coventry Crusaders' 99-72 victory over Solent on Saturday.

Director of basketball Mick Donavon said: "The team showed tremendous character in the second- half. To reach our second major semi-final is a good achievement, now let's take the next step."

Solent started strongly with Wolves' initial response coming from forwards Colin Chiverton and Rob Clarke.

However, the hosts continued to outscore Worcester and raced into a convincing 29-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Despite still conceding at the defensive end of the court, Worcester found gaps in the Solent defence in a more even second period.

Josh Cooprider and Richard Onions scored well from the three-point range and Ty Shaw drove to basket twice within a minute.

Onions continued to punish Solent and Rick Solvason added a three-pointer on the buzzer, although Wolves still trailed 50-38 at half-time.

A rejuvenated Wolves took the initiative at both ends of the court in the second-half. Onions, Solvason and Cooprider all found success from distance, and Barry Lamble added points with jump shots from outside the zone.

At the end of the third quarter the Wolves had reduced the deficit to four points and trailed 76-66 but had Onions and Shaw both on four fouls.

Solvason and Lamble scored within the first minute of the final quarter to tie the game at 70-70 yet Solent responded with seven points.

Wolves then altered their attacking play, feeding the ball inside to Shaw and Lamble and within the next five minutes they capitalised on the service to edge Wolves 84-83 ahead.

Three-pointers from Cooprider and Edmonson were cancelled out and Wolves had a three-point cushion with one minute left.

Cooprider successfully converted two foul shots, while a basket in the last seconds for Solents' Capers was too late.
