THE Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is looking for runners from Worcestershire to join its team in the 2005 Flora London Marathon.

Organisers are currently letting applicants know whether or not they have been allocated a place in April's marathon after receiving a record number of entries.

Runners who chose to raise funds for the RNLI will get a free running vest and a designated viewing point on the 26.2-mile course for friends and family.

They can choose which lifeboat station to raise funds for so all their sponsorship money can go directly to their preferred station.

It costs £300,000 a day to run the RNLI and a sum of £1,300 will cover the costs of training a new all-weather lifeboat crew member from scratch.

In the 2004 London Marathon, RNLI runners raised almost £98,000 - enough to train 75 new recruits. This time round, the charity hopes to raise more than £100,000.
