NURSES at a Worcester hospice are appealing to residents with redundant stairlifts to donate them to needy patients.

St Richard's Hospice, in Rose Hill, near Worcester City Centre, has teamed up with county companies in a project to help install stairlifts in patient's homes.

Three stairlifts have already been donated and installed for grateful patients but more are urgently needed.

Sally Knowles, one of the charity's nurses, said: "As soon as the stairlifts come in, our nurses know of many patients who would benefit.

"The three that had been donated were quickly installed, making life easier for some of our patients.

Campaigning

"We are asking those people to please think of how it could be put to good use once more to help our patients."

The charity, which is also currently campaigning to raise £5.15m to build a new hospice, in Wildwood Drive, in Spetchley, Worcester, provides care for people with cancer and other serious conditions.

The new hospice will house all the current service provided at Rose Hill, as well as 15 specialist, palliative care beds - the first of their kind in South Worcestershire.
