AN amateur historian from Cookley is appealing for help with a conundrum he has been unable to solve on his own.

Roger Mathews was clearing out a distant relative's house in Chester Road, Kidderminster, around a year ago, when he came across what looked to be a cinema or musical programme with the words "The Tivoli, Mill Street", written on the front.

What The Tivoli was, however, or how old the puzzling piece of paper is, is a mystery to Mr Mathews and he is relying on Shuttle/Times and News readers to enlighten him.

The retired carpet production manager's uncle, Harry Blent, was the assistant manager of Kidderminster's Grand Cinema during the 1940s and Mr Mathews believes The Tivoli may have been an earlier version of this - but has no way of knowing.

The 69-year-old member of Wolverley and Cookley Local History Society said: "There may be some elderly people out there who may remember it or know of it but it's interesting because I'd never heard of it before I came across this programme.

"My uncle worked at The Grand Cinema and I feel it's the same building which has been demolished now but, with the family connection, it took my interest... I just find it fascinating."
