A CCTV scheme for Kidderminster has again been delayed and will not be up and running until 2005.

Technical and legal problems have meant the £130,000 scheme will not go live this year, even though it was agreed in March.

The Wyre Forest District Council project was pencilled in to be up and running by the summer.

The latest hold-up was the production of poles for the cameras to be fixed to.

The district council's cabinet member for community and leisure services, councillor Nathan Desmond, said: "We were aiming for the system to be running by mid-December but, unfortunately, the switch-on has been delayed.

"The legal procedures took longer than expected and now technical problems have put the whole process back again.

"These hold-ups have been beyond our control.

"We are obviously disappointed the cameras won't be going live as soon as we had hoped," he added.

The poles have now been delivered and installed, a council spokeswoman said. They will be monitored by Bromsgrove District Council and placed at:

Bromsgrove Street car park

New Road, next to Pike Mills car park

Junction of Castle Road and New Road

Junction of Marlborough Street and Worcester Street

Junction of Coventry Street and Blackwell Street

Junction of Exchange Street and Vicar Street
