HEALTH chiefs have issued advice about what Wyre Forest residents should do if they face medical problems over the festive period.

In the case of severe or serious accidents, 999 should be dialled immediately, as normal. For access to a GP out of hours during Christmas and New Year, people should ring 0845 609 0669. A GP will decide the most appropriate course of action with the caller.

This could include advice over the telephone, referral to the Primary Care Centre at Kidderminster Hospital for consultation, or arranging a home visit.

Anyone suffering minor injuries, such as cuts, minor burns, scalds, sprains, simple eye problems or sporting injuries, should go directly to the Minor Injuries Unit at Kidderminster Hospital.

Selected pharmacists will be able to provide free emergency contraception over the holiday period or people can contact their own GPs out of hours.
