A Worcester children's charity is in the money thanks to the efforts of pupils at a city school.

The 265 youngsters, who attend Northwick Manor Infants School, collected £855 in special Christmas money-boxes for Acorns Children's Hospice.

School administrator Petra Nuttall said the children went home with the empty money-boxes and some of them were returned bulging with coins.

"Some of the boxes were so full they were taped up. I think they must have asked everyone to donate who visited over Christmas.

"They love doing it. The delight in their faces when they bring in their boxes is lovely to see.

"People are glad to give to a local charity. It is a children's charity and we are a local school so it is all interlinked."

The school collects for Acorns, on Bath Road, every Christmas and has contributed thousands of pounds to its funds over the years.
