A LARGE crowd cheered on boxers from the Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club at their home tournament at Stoke Prior Sports Club with Droitwich boxers winning six of their eight bouts.

Middleweight Alex Strutt (22) left no-one in any doubt about his promise when he won convincingly against the experienced Andy Helps (Leicester), dropping him in the first round and dominating the contest from then on.

Helps was always dangerous with his speed of punching, but Strutt used his superior reach and power to bring his career record to five wins from six contests.

Brett Fidoe (13) boasts a similar record after picking himself up from losing his National Golden Belt Championships semi-final.

He boxed well against Merthyr's Rhys Evans to give his taller Welsh opponent a boxing lesson.

Lightweight Adam Mytton (17) extended his winning record at the expense of another Merthyr boxer when he out-pointed Ryan Evans.

In an untidy bruising contest, Mytton was always in the driving seat to bring his impressive record to 22 wins from 30 starts.

The Droitwich club achieved a hat-trick of wins against Merthyr when 17-year-old debutant light- middleweight Gene Hudson gave another impressive display to outpoint Owen Hardcastle. Hudson gave a superb demonstration of fast movement and devastating jabbing as he glided around the ring, picking off his opponent and securing a well deserved win.

Middleweight Brendan Gibbons (18) carried on the impressive display by Droitwich boxers by proving too fast and determined for Lydney's James Cadogan.

Light-heavyweight Dave Jenvey (20) withstood an early onslaught from Northampton's Paul Wainwright to power his way through to a convincing points victory.

Earlier in the evening, middleweight Mitchell Ferris (18) lost a close decision to Richard Gardner (Kineton), while 12-year-old James Evans was out-pointed by Simon Ward from Stoke.
