DAVID Leatherdale is Worcestershire's new commercial manager.

The County, who recently lost Tom Sears to Derbyshire, have replaced him with veteran New Road star Leather-dale.

The 37-year-old all-rounder, who is still contracted as a one-day player for next season, will combine the two jobs in the summer while working full-time in his new role during the winter.

Worcestershire's chief executive Mark Newton believed Leatherdale, with his experience of the community and club, was the ideal choice.

"I am delighted that David has accepted this new role in addition to his playing contract," he said.

"He will certainly be busy over the next few months but his commercial background and knowledge of the local business community together with the excellent commercial team already at the club will provide the continuity we need at this stage."

The County announced this week that Sears was moving to Derbyshire to become their new chief executive, hot on the heels of Mark Tagg's defection to Northamptonshire after 18 years as director of finance and operations.

Leatherdale was positive over his new role. "I am delighted to take on this exciting and challenging role at a club that for nearly 20 years has been very close to my heart," he said.

"I look forward to strengthening the relationships we have with our many loyal sponsors and supporters as well as developing new links."
