THE results of the crime survey, published in the November 18 issue of the Shuttle/Times and News, made both interesting and disturbing reading.

The crime of assault against the person has risen in our area by a staggering 36.8 per cent in the space of just three years.

Far from being a safe place in which to live - as the police are fond of telling us - it would appear that the only secure environment available for the residents of Wyre Forest after dark, is the safety of our own homes, with doors and windows firmly bolted.

This increase in assault and violence corresponds exactly with the period in which the police have received massive rises in funding through the Council Tax, as well as additional staff numbers paid for by central Government.

We are, therefore, reasonably entitled to ask what has been done with all these extra resources.

They have certainly not been used to make Wyre Forest a better or safer place in which to live, and it is high time that those in charge started to answer some very serious questions.
