THE captain of Evesham Cricket Club has been suspended from his post after being allegedly arrested in South Africa.
Barry Clements, who has led the team for one season, was said to have been arrested at Johannesburg airport on Wednesday morning. Details of Mr Clements alleged arrest were unavailable as the Journal went to press but he was believed to have been returning to the Vale for Christmas. He had been in South Africa since the beginning of October to play for one of the country's cricket clubs. David Higginson, chairman of Evesham Cricket Club, said: "Pending further investigation, we have decided to suspend Barry Clements from his post as club captain, while we try to ascertain what has happened. The committee has made this decision in view of his arrest."
