A BUNGLING Kidderminster house burglar left his name and address at a shop where he sold his stolen goods.

Gavin Carey was arrested but raided another home after being granted bail, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Carey, of Queen Street, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to two burglaries and possession of cannabis. He was jailed for 27 months.

The 22-year-old first targeted his next door neighbour, forcing the front door and stealing £40 worth of electrical items.

Prosecutor Makham Shoker said he was easily traced after selling the goods for £25 at a shop where he left his correct particulars.

Bailed on September 9, he then broke into a house in Lea Street, Kidderminster, and stole £550 cash and a camcorder and accessories worth £780.

He was questioned after police spotted him and another man sitting in a car parked near a social club in Cookley. They ran off but Carey was arrested and had a tin of cannabis on him.

Carey, who had previous convictions for burglary, theft and criminal damage, turned to crime to fund a £30 a day heroin habit, said John Edwards, defending.

The raids were in daylight hours on unoccupied dwellings, he added. Carey had quit drugs while on remand and now felt motivated to stop offending.

Judge Michael Mott warned Carey that under the "three strikes" rule, a third conviction for house burglary in the future would bring him a minimum sentence of three years' jail but said it was refreshing that in a letter Carey wrote to him, he did not ask to be let off.
