A POPULAR city wrestler lost to one of his main rivals during a televised championship bout - but this was about oven rings, not wrestling rings.

John Stallard - better known in Worcester as "Jonny the Body" - took on fellow grappler Matthew "Mad Dog" Powell during an edition of BBC2's Ready, Steady Cook, which was screened yesterday afternoon.

The popular cookery show pits two celebrity chefs, who are both assisted by a member of the public, against each other to create the most impressive dishes in just

20 minutes.

But the dishes cooked up by Mad Dog's chef, Lesley Waters, was voted by the audience to be better than the ones prepared by Jonny the Body's chef, Paul Rankin.

Mr Stallard, aged 25, told the Evening News he had still had great fun filming the show with the chefs and presenter Ainsley Harriott.

"I used to work in a lot of restaurants when I was a teenager, so I know my way around a kitchen, and I picked up some great tips for a chocolate cake, which I have made since," he said.
