Bretforton I 1, Bath Buccaneers 1

IN SATURDAY'S final league match before the Christmas break, Bretforton wasted no time in taking the lead.

Excellent work by after just five minutes from Lisa Workman allowed Dannie Cox to open the scoring.

The home side kept the pressure on with Liz Murray-White making a number of excellent runs down the right wing but Bretforton couldn't capitalise on their superiority.

Sarah Hall and Gilly Wright played well up front with midfielders Sophie Corbett and Deb Slatter also in fine form.

Player of the match Cox was also being extre-mely effective in the midfield where she produced a number of crucial tackles.

Bath also had a number of short corners that they failed to convert due to excellent defending and goalkeeper Vicky Webb making a number of great saves.

The second half saw Bretforton less effective and they found themselves pegged back in their own half as Bath tightened up their marking.

Just when it appeared that Bretforton had withstood the barrage, they were unlucky to concede another short corner two minutes from time that resulted in the equaliser.

The match ball was sponsored by V T Plus Training.

Brockworth 1, Bretforton Ladies II 2

THE visiting side's final game before the festive break brought an early present with victory over the league leaders.

Bretforton struggled to find their form on a bouncy surface and they fell behind midway through the opening half.

The visitors attacked purposefully but failed to turn possession into goals until Julie Hall levelled on the stroke of half-time after good work from Sandy Boswell, Ceri Barber and Shirley Aubrey.

An interval pep talk settled the Bretforton girls as they improved their passing as they went on to dominate the action.

However, a second goal took a while to arrive and followed good play from Lesley McKinnon and player of the match Barber, whose inter-play left Bernie Amphlett the chance to fire the ball into the net.
