FIGHTERS from Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club wowed a large crowd at Stoke Prior Sports and Social Club on December 10 (Friday).

Boxers showed off their skills at the club's first home tournament of the season.

Middleweight Alex Strutt, 22, convincingly defeated experienced Leicester boxer Andy Helps.

Strutt sent Helps crasing to the matt in the first round and then dominated the bout to make it five wins from six bouts.

Brett Fidoe, 13, bounced back from his disappointment in the Golden Belt Championships by defeating Merthyr Tydfil's Rhys Evans.

Adam Mytton, 17, out pointed Merthyr lightweight Ryan Evans in a hard fought encounter.

Gene Hudson, 17, made an impressive debut for the club by defeating lightweight Owen Hardcastle.

Middleweight Brendan Gibbons, 18, was too fast and strong for Lydney's James Cadogan, while Dave Jenvey weathered intense pressure in the first round against Northampton's Paul Wainright to beat him on points.

Mitchell Ferris, 18, was edged by Kineton's Richard Gardner and James Evans, 12, lost narrowly to Simon Ward from Stoke.

Coach Chris Andrews said: "The hat-trick against Merthyr was something very special.

"Fidoe and Hudson were brilliant, and Mytton gave the sort of gutsy display which is going to make him a major contender in the Junior Championships later in the season.

"I was also very pleased with Alex Strutt, Brendan Gibbons and Dave Jenvey who are all making impressive headway in the senior ranks."
