PIZZA Express, Next and Holland and Barratt have been revealed as some of the big name stores heading for Droitwich Spa.

Droitwich town councillors shared their ideas on the exciting proposals for the Salters Shopping Centre at a planning committee meeting last Monday.

Councillors Jan Clarke, Graham Gopsill, Anne Taft and Roy Seabourne had attended the unveiling of the plans at the end of last month.

The Advertiser has already revealed a scheme to bring Carphone Warehouse and Argos to the shopping centre in the New Year.

Planning permission to build these shops opposite Wilkinsons are already being considered by Wychavon District Council

Further ideas, suggested by precinct owners Kandahar, include a glass sided coffee shop, thought to be Costa Coffee, and a transparent cover over some of the centre.

Cllr Peter Pinfield spoke in favour of the plans. "Anything we can do to improve the shopping centre, we should do."

He said he was pleased that there was an enterprising businessman looking to invest in the town.

Cllr Terry Spencer, the committee's deputy chairman stressed the plans were only in their initial stages.

While Labour's Cllr Roy Seabourne commented he was embarrassed that only a few fellow councillors turned out for the presentation.

Cllr Graham Gopsill suggested inviting Kandahar to a forthcoming town council meeting, so everyone could see the presentation. "It was absolutely first class," he said.

Mayor, Cllr Anne Taft, agreed.
