AT the November indoor meeting, members and friends were enthralled by the wonderful scenes shown to them by professional wildlife photographer Mike Lane.
Fantastic Oman sunsets and a brief glimpse into back street poverty around New Delhi preceded scenes of the natural beauties and everyday living in and around the Bharatpur National Park in India.
Several species of vulture, crane, heron and kingfisher frequent the running water area of the region and shoveller and gadwall, found in our country, are also resident there.
The evening concluded with magnificent pictures of a tiger approaching the low sided Jeep and then lying down within six yards of the camera. The late November field trip to Upton Warren Nature Reserve was marred by cold and, at times, sleety rain. The hoped for sighting of the bittern did not transpire but there was reward in the large number of snipe, curlew and lapwings present. Bullfinches were of special interest around the feeding station at The Flashes Pool.
At the next branch indoor meeting, today (Wednesday) at St Oswald's Church Centre, Broadwaters, at 7.30pm, Jan Harrington will be talking about her work with Swan Rescue. The evening will conclude with a glass of wine and light refreshments in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the West Midland Bird Club.
The next field trip will be in January.
Anyone interested in wildlife, birdlife and conservation in general is always welcome to join both our indoor meetings and field trips. For details, or further information, contact 01562 67748.
