Barnt Green Spartak 1 Southam United 2

BARNT Green's lacklustre form in the Midland Combination Premier Division continued as Southam snatched all three points at Lye Meadow on Saturday.

Spartak were stunned by their Warwickshire opponents, who had defender Lloyd Sewell to thank for scoring an own goal.

Manager GJ Singh handed Kieron Holland his debut and the forward almost marked his start with a goal, but his low shot was saved by Southam's goalkeeper.

Spartak found themselves trailing a minute later, when Rob Brassington completed a flowing Southam break to score.

Barnt Green went in search of the equaliser, but Southam doubled their lead when the ball bounced off the advancing Sewell and into the back of the net after goalkeeper Kenny Sanders could only parry Tom Thackers' shot.

The home side responded immediately and Karroll Hamber set Warren Sewell up for a goal.

Despite carving out a number of chances Singh's side could not put any of them away.

The manager said: "It was a game we should have won comfortably.

"We made all our own problems, we dominated the game but couldn't score.

"Even their second goal was down to very poor marking by us."

Barnt Green take on title chasing Coventry Marconi away on Saturday (2pm kick off).
