WORCESTER'S young guns claimed glory at the North Midlands under-10 festival.

A squad of 13 boys were drawn into a league that also contained Stourbridge and Dudley Kingswinford.

In the opening match against Stourbridge a try in the first half by William Meikle was sufficient to win the game.

Against Dudley Kingswinford, more direct running saw Worcester dominate with an outstanding solo run and score by Chris Plumb being the pick of the five tries scored.

Solid defence by George Preece, Alistair Duddell and James Gunther kept the Worcester line intact.

Having won their league, the boys progressed to the quarter-finals where Birmingham Solihull were defeated by six tries to nil.

George Fairlie, who had switched to scrum-half, scored a poacher's try down the blindside and pacy Charlie Buiskool bagged two touchdowns.

The hardest game of the tournament saw Worcester edge out Moseley in the semi-final.

Moseley's strong and mobile forwards caused problems and determined tackling by Eddie Harling kept them out.

Eventually, Worcester took hold of the game and a forward drive saw the Sixways side score to win by one try to nil.

The final against Bromsgrove was won within the first five minutes when Ben Rhodes helped Harry Greenway to a hat-trick of tries.

Worcester went on to win by five tries to nil. Forwards Andrew Boyce, Chip Lawton and William Cusack were outstanding during the competition and enabled Worcester's backs to star.

It was their second tournament win of the year and they, once again, did not concede a try.
