THIEVES smashed the cash box of a public telephone in a Herefordshire village and made off with £150 in coins.

Police have just revealed that thieves removed the box in broad daylight in Wellington Heath near Ledbury, on Tuesday, November 30, and are now appealing for witnesses.

"Between 1pm and 1.09pm, offenders have entered the telephone kiosk in the village and removed the entire cash box from its mounting," said a Hereford Police spokesman.

"They caused £50 worth of damage and stole an estimated £150 in cash.

"Seen nearby at the time was a blue Renault Kangoo vehicle, or similar, which left the area shortly afterwards.

"We are keen to speak with anyone who saw the vehicle or its occupants before or after the attack."

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact PC Pete Askwith at Ledbury Police Station on 08457 444888, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
