YOUNG footballers in Worcester have ensured that underprivileged children in Kenya look just as good as they do on the pitch by donating last season's football strip.

The Whittington and St Peter's Junior Football Club's under-10 strip is now being proudly modelled by children from Mombasa.

Nigel Upson and Mark Jones, who run the club, decided to donate the strip after learning of the Supporting Kenya project run by Mr Upson's colleague from Severn Trent, Paul McCartney, and his wife Carol.

"This is a fantastic project and football kits represent only one example of all of the things that Paul and Carol have managed to collect," Mr Upson said.

"They really make a difference to the lives of these children."

Tony Blake, from sponsors St Peter's Garden Centre, provided the team with a new kit to replace the one sent to Africa.

Mr McCartney told the Evening News that the reaction from the youngsters when they were given the kit was great.

"It doesn't matter what you give them - from one penny to £100 - you always put a smile on their faces. They are just so grateful," he said.
