A SHOWROOM store could be built at a car parts company within the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty if planners give the go-ahead.

Rebus Enterprises Ltd has applied to Malvern Hills District Council to erect a side and rear extension at Performance Motor Components Ltd in Wells Road to house the showroom store.

The proposed extension would also give additional retail space to create a fourth unit on the premises.

The site comprises a part single, part two-storey building on sloping land on the eastern side of Wells Road.

There are currently three units on site - a furniture retail store, Daniels Car Sales and PMC Motorsports to the rear.

Planning permission already exists for the erection of a two-storey office and workshop extension and single-storeroom to the rear but neither has been implemented.

The proposed scheme is similar to that already approved, with slight alterations to the external elevations.

A couple of residents have raised objections on the grounds it would be detrimental to their view.

They are also argue as to whether there is a need for additional facilities as they say the site has already doubled in size.

The applicants have written to the council saying that the main activity of PMC Motorsports is the mail order of car distribution parts and the shop area is therefore no longer necessary.

They say that a high quality sales and showroom area is needed and that the area designated for conversion to units to and three is unsuitable.

Planners say the proposal is considered to have a reduced impact on the landscape in comparison to the previously approved scheme and are recommending permission is granted.

The application is due to be determined at a meeting of the council's southern area development control committee at 7pm tomorrow.
