Part of the historic boundary wall of Witley Court will be removed to make way for a new access to Witley Park Farm after planners gave permission.

Great Witley Parish Council opposed the measure, which also involves the loss of trees and shrubs, saying they did not want to see any part of the local heritage destroyed without justification.

However, Malvern Hills planning officers said the wall was less than a three feet high and could not be seen from the Grade I listed Witley Court, and English Heritage had raised no objection.

The plan involves creating a farm track from the A443 east of Great Witley, passing through Witley Court, to the lane serving Great Witley Church.

An existing access at Chestnut Drive would be closed when the new drive opens.

A planning committee agreed that consent for the new track could be given by officers, in consultation with the local member, Coun Paul Cumming, subject to the receipt of satisfactory amended plans.
